We are a results driven society. Want what we want, now. Yearn for what works.

Many have found health by prayer. Have found that spiritual things matter the most – benefit them the most.

They are learning that God cares for the human mind and body.

  • A recent study lead by a UMass Memorial Medical Center researcher found that the percentage of people who turn to prayer because of health concerns increased 36 percent between 1999 and 2007. The findings showed that the percentage of those turning to prayer increased across all demographic groups — from 43 percent in 2002 to 49 percent in 2007. Read More→

Some people are surprised to hear that spirituality ever had a role in healing. However, not counting this blog site, I believe you will hear more and more about the importance of spirituality in regards to health issues.

Perhaps we’ve all forgotten that religions and religious organizations were the first sponsors of medical care institutions.

For those asking whether spirituality and faith should have a place in health care discussions or for those questioning the interface of theology and medicine, Dr. Jeff Levin’s book, God, Faith, and Health: Exploring the Spirituality Healing Connection, supplies considerable talking points. A mother called. She’d just learned she was going to have a fourth child.

Each of her deliveries had been a struggle. She felt inadequate as a mother to the three children she already had, and now she and the rest of her family felt totally unprepared for another child. She asked me to pray.

I told her I would, however, I didn’t pray about whether this child was a necessary addition to the family, or even whether she could handle another child. My prayer was more along the lines of cherishing the spiritual value and purpose of each of God’s children.

Then, as I prayed, a message came to my thought. I wrote it down:

Dear Mom,

Be still. Fear not. You are not responsible for my life. I exist to express eternal Life and Love, our Father-Mother God. You did not create me. I am God’s self-expression, His fullness revealing Himself in a way that you can understand. I am here to show you that you are not weak. You express the supreme strength of Spirit. God’s capacity for good and abilities for joy flow endlessly through you and all that you do. I am here to show you that our Life is for loving and that our Love always has life. My presence can cause you no pain or sorrow, for I reveal God’s unending love for you. Smile! God has blessed me through you, and He is blessing you through me.

Lovingly,
Your dear one

Key To Your Life and Health

Posted by: | Comments (1)

After working in a Christian healing ministry for the past twenty-eight years, I have learned a few important things.  Here’s one:

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.  (Proverbs 4:7,8)

Get understanding. Without it, you will make no difference in the world. Learn to see things from a spiritual point of view. This perspective is a life-preserver, the key to your life and health.

  • Honesty is spiritual power.
  • Health is a state of Mind (not human, but divine).
  • Health is Mind/Spirit based, not matter-based.
  • Health is not an accident.
  • You get what you admit. Read More→

“My son was brought down the mountain by medics.”

This statement grabbed my attention last summer. I was in a meeting with Kate Raetz, District Director for State Rep. Susan King, in Abilene. Abbie Randolph, a member of a local church there, attended the meeting, as well. In the meeting, Abbie described her son’s experience after an accident on a ski slope.

She told us that her son had been brought down the mountain and to a hospital. At the hospital, Abbie asked him what form of care he wanted to use – medical care or prayerful/spiritual treatment. Her 18 year old son confidently stated he wanted to use prayer. He chose what he’d found, in the past, to be effective.

The prayerful treatment began. However, at that point, the medical staff wanted Abbie’s son to have an x-ray to see what they were dealing with. However, a doctor said “Wait, the boy is healing up as we speak.”  And, indeed, the healing took place quickly. Read More→

Last week, I visited with Doug Schurtz, Morning Assignment Editor, at Houston’s KTRK-TV ABC Channel 13. I found Doug to be a really genuine guy and a great listener. He showed me the station’s newly refurbished studios and I truly enjoyed our meeting.

While touring the studios and talking with Doug about responsible spiritual care, I suddenly thought about another studio I was in about 5 years ago.

The studio that suddenly came to mind was a radio studio at Times Square in New York City. I had been lecturing in New York and Connecticut, and was scheduled to be interviewed on the Joey Renolds Show. Joey’s show starts at midnight and runs until 5 in the morning. It airs live across the United States. That night, I stepped into the studio at 2 AM. Read More→

Although the Christian Science denomination uses the word Christian in its name, many people don’t know it is Bible, Jesus, and prayer based. It is definitely Christian.

Christian Scientists are students of the Bible – Old and New Testaments. Most of them study this book daily, especially the works and words of Jesus. They yearn to emulate Jesus, in some degree, because he said to follow him. They view Jesus as their Way-Shower, their shepherd.

After many years of prayer and study of the Bible, I’ve found 5 simple things that have helped me prepare myself to be a Christian healer. They might help you too. Read More→

High school senior Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), decides to skip school on a nice spring day by faking an illness to his parents (Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett), then encourages his girlfriend, Sloane (Mia Sara), and his pessimistic best friend, Cameron (Alan Ruck), to spend the day in Chicago as one of their last flings before they head off to different colleges. –Wikipedia

Wow. Has it really been 25 years since the release of John Hughes’ comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? (Released June 11, 1986)

Are you one of the fans anticipating a 25th Anniversary Edition of the film? I’ve heard Paramount plans a Blu-ray and DVD on August 2nd.

How many times did you miss a day of school because of illness, faked or otherwise? Read More→

Sin’s impact on Health

Posted by: | Comments (0)

There is a lot of suffering these days, it seems.

If I wanted to shoot hoops today, but the only sneakers I could find were a pair of size 8½ red high-tops, I’d be frustrated. I wear 9½, and that garish crimson just won’t do. However, if I went ahead and wore them for a game, how do you think my feet would feel afterward? Likely, I would pay a price the following day.

In the above example, we could call the impulsiveness and impatience a sin; and it illustrates the way in which sin impacts health by causing physical and emotional suffering. Anger, hate, envy, dishonesty, and all selfishness have unpleasant consequences. And sin causes more than blisters on toes. The entire body is affected by thought. For example, many are studying the role stress and emotions have on cardiovascular disease. (See WebMD article) How we feel is connected and subject to how we think. Read More→
